How We Teach and Learn

At Haley Pilot School, instruction is designed to challenge students while providing the support they need to succeed. Our classrooms emphasize meaningful student thinking, strong foundational skills, and consistent academic expectations across grade levels.

Mathematics (Grades K–5)

Students build problem-solving skills through Illustrative Math, strengthening conceptual understanding and mathematical reasoning.

Mathematics (Grades 6–8)

Students deepen mathematical thinking through Desmos, applying skills through interactive tools and real-world problems.

Science/STE (Grades 6–8)

Students explore scientific concepts through OpenSciEd, engaging in inquiry-based investigations and evidence-based reasoning.

Foundational Reading (K–2)

Students build early literacy skills through Heggerty Phonemic Awareness, strengthening decoding, fluency, and reading confidence.

Language Arts (Grades 3–5)

Students develop reading and writing skills through EL Education K–5 Language Arts, using standards-aligned texts and tasks.

Social Studies (Grades 3–8)

Students explore history, civics, and geography through standards-aligned instruction that builds critical thinking and civic understanding.
